Client is seeking a SQL Database Administrator, responsible for ensuring the databases and servers pertaining to the website are working properly and efficiently at all times.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Identifies and optimizes poorly performing stored procedures and in-line SQL code.
Identifies and suggests improvements to SQL code during the development/QA process.
Maintains disaster recovery plans as it pertains to the production database environment.
Draws up and maintains documentation for first tier support.
Works closely with the Database Architect and Development team to implement best practices for MySQL databases.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of at least one MySQL variant (MySQL, Percona, or MariaDB).
Knowledge of MySQL data replication.
Knowledge of Linux as it pertains to a MySQL installation.
Knowledge of common MySQL backup and restore procedures.
Familiarity with MySQL and Linux security practices.
Ability to create, monitor, and maintain a high-availability MySQL installation is preferred.
Knowledge of Redis, Cassandra, MongoDB, or other NoSQL database is preferred.
Familiarity with Amazon AWS strongly preferred.
Knowledge of a scripting language (Perl, Bash, Python, etc) preferred.
Skills in complex problem solving, judgment, critical/analytical thinking, logic/reasoning, and decision making.
Skills in analysis and maintenance planning on production systems.
Ability to communicate effectively via multiple channels (verbal, written, etc) with technical and non-technical staff.
Ability to be versatile and handle multiple projects and reprioritizations.
Ability to troubleshoot and piece together conclusions and apply rules to produce answers that make sense.
Ability to work with outside vendors and individuals in a professional manner.
Ability to sit all day looking at a computer screen.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This position typically works 40 hours per week and occasionally evenings and/or weekends to meet deadlines.
This position requires being part of an on call rotation.
Flexible on work schedules due to on call rotation and night/weekend deadlines.
